POST OPERATIVE BITCH SPEY ADVICE

Your Pet has today had an Ovariohysterectomy under a general anaesthetic. It is important that you follow these guidelines to ensure Your Pet has a speedy recovery.

• Allow Your Pet to rest in a warm, quiet place tonight

• Feed a small bland meal this evening such as boiled chicken or fish as a heavy meal could cause vomiting she can then return to her normal diet tomorrow.

• Allow Your Pet to go out to the toilet tonight but restrict her to the garden only.

• For the next 7 – 10 days Your Pet must have short lead exercise only and should be discouraged from jumping up.

• You must monitor her wound carefully, if it is looking red, sore, weeping or she is licking the wound you must contact the surgery immediately, as this could delay healing and a buster collar may be required.

• Your Pet will have been given pain medication prior to her operation which will last 24 hours and pain relief in tablet form will be supplied for the next 48 hours, but if you feel Your Pet is still in discomfort please contact the surgery.

• If Your Pet was given additional medication to take home, please ensure you follow the instructions carefully and finish the course.

POST OPERATIVE CHECK

• Please bring Your Pet back to the surgery in 3 days time for a check up.

• Your Pet has non dissolvable stitches these will need to be removed 10 days after surgery.

• Your Pet has dissolvable stitches that do not need to be removed. Check ups at the surgery are included in the cost of the operation. However, any additional medication will incur a charge.

IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT YOUR PET PLEASE CONTACT THE SURGERY IMMEDIATELY Tel 01752 700600 or 01752 690999
